1771-1743. The Russo-Swedish War. As a result of the Treaty of Åbo, Sweden ceded part of southern Finland to Russia.

In 1755, P. Shuvalov, who was appointed General Feldzeugmeister, began painstaking work to modernize Russian artillery. Moscow University was founded, and the first Russian magazine, "Monthly Writings," began publication in St. Petersburg.

In 1757, the Academy of Arts was established in St. Petersburg.
