The Order of Lenin
Established
by the Decree of the Presidium TsIK USSR of April 6, 1930. The Order of Lenin
is the highest decoration in the USSR for outstanding services in the revolutionary
movement, labor, defense of the socialist motherland, the development of friendship
and cooperation among people, strengthening of peace and other especially outstanding
services before the Soviet state and society.
Artist I.Dubasov and a well-known sculptor I.D.Shadr took part in creating the design for the order. The Order of Lenin is made out of gold, the superimposed bas-relief of Lenin fashioned out of platinum. The gold content of the order was 28.604 +/- 1.1 grams, platinum -- 2.75 grams (as of 18 September 1975). The total weight of the order -- 33.6 +/- 1.75 grams. From the moment the order was established in 1930 and until the breakup of the USSR in 1991, in all, 460,000 decorations were made with the Order of Lenin.
