Evgenii Bessonov was born in Moscow in 1923. He graduated from a military academy in 1943 and served as a lieutenant in the Red Army. As an infantry platoon comander in the 4th Tank Army he participated in all major battles conducted by this army (Battle of Kursk, the Lvov Operation, the Vistula-Oder Operation, the Berlin Operation). Many times he faced death, but with luck and experience he managed to survive, being only lightly wounded twice. This year he turns eighty. He still participates actively in the work of the Moscow Veteran Commitee. He will be pleased to receive comments or questions about his book at this address:
