All about shoelaces and shoelace knots, including my "Ian Knot", the
World's Fastest Shoelace Knot (now celebrating it's 21st anniversary!).
Welcome to Ian's Shoelace Site
It was just over 21 years ago that I invented a super-fast way of tying my shoelaces. I named this technique the
Ian Knot, the World's Fastest Shoelace Knot, and have been sharing it with the world in a
variety of ways ever since.
Since starting this web site back in May 2000, I've gradually expanded it to include some of the fascinating
shoelace related knowledge that I've collected over the years. My most recent addition is my
Lacing Shoes section, covering a number of useful ways of lacing to achieve different
results.
By the way, I'm not really not a knotting nut, nor am I largely a lacing loony. Rather, I'm someone who's
passionate about efficiency. Most of my web site deals with different forms of efficiency, and having an efficient
way of tying shoelaces is just one thing that I figure most people could benefit from. If you don't give my
Ian Knot a go, I hope you at least get a laugh out of it.
This site is provided for your benefit and enjoyment both free of charge and free of advertising. What it costs me
in hosting charges (around $500 a year), I receive back in knowing that I am providing something worthwhile,
especially when people take the time to contact me with positive feedback. Please try to
use this site responsibly, and feel free to link to it or to pass on the address to others.
Here's a brief rundown of what you'll find inside and where:

Shoelace Knots
Besides my own "Ian Knot", the World's Fastest Shoelace Knot, this section covers five
other knots plus advice on how to stop shoelaces coming undone. All have been carefully illustrated with clear, easy
to follow diagrams. If you want to learn to tie shoelaces, you've come to the right place!

Lacing Shoes
Out of some 43000 possible ways of lacing a shoe with six pairs of eyelets, I'll present several practical
combinations on this page. If you were after ways to TIE your shoelaces, see my Shoelace Knots

Here's some links to other shoelace and knot related web sites. Providing links is good "Netiquette", enabling the
Internet to effectively become its own index.
